Mike Sheldrake couldn't afford a new surfboard, but who needs cash when you've got brains. The guy built himself a legit surfboard that features a cardboard core (instead of foam). Since his first board he's been busy creating more prototypes and even caught Alex Knost's attention, who rumor has it bought one off Mike and then ripped on it.

Check out Mike Sheldrake's 'Cardboards' website for more information.
Kookier than the treadmill on wheels.
With water that seems like it's gotten cold a little more quickly than in years past it's good to remember what wusses we really are. That's what we have the actually-pretty-good surf flick 'Unsalted' to remind us of. If watching guys surf next to mini icebergs isn't enough then check out this press release about how surfing in Chicago can get you locked up; here's the best part:
"...local surfer, musician and activist Jack Flynn, who initiated a pro-surfing petition with over a thousand signatures on it, was arrested for surfing not so long ago. Pribram says "It's baffling. He was locked up overnight in his wetsuit, shivering with cellmates who'd just robbed a bank."
Probably not worth it, except to say you did it.
By now a lot of you might be thinking that this is the kookiest post ever. If you are kind of on the edge and think all the Alaia stuff is kneck and kneck here's something to push this one over the top:
Chris Malloy's newest surf flick, 'One Track Mind', made its Freedom Surf Shop premiere a couple of weeks ago. Maybe you saw it, maybe you didn't but in either case these making of videos are worth checking out.
